Always open. Rolling publication. Poetry and art only. (Prose poetry is fine, you hooligans, and honestly we could be convinced on flash pieces…).

Art Guidelines are on their own at the bottom.

Here’s how this works:

The gist: you have to decide which reader you’re submitting to. Taylor or Martheaus. Our styles are different. You gotta play favorites and decide which of our tastes might be the best fit for your work. Then you send that reader your poems and hope you chose correctly…

Once you get accepted by one of us, you are on that “team” for life!!!!! (Or until you submit poems to the other reader and get accepted by them as well…then things get wild.)

(For ideas about what each of us like, you can head on over to our “About” section.

What we accept:

-One to three (1-3) poems (whatever that means to you, any length, any style, fr go crazy).

-Sim subs are great!!! Send your work everywhere! We do that too! Just please let us know if you need to pull a poem. Please email submit@brawllit.com with the subject line [ Withdrawal - Full Name ].

-We encourage submissions from BIPOC, LGBTQ+, women-identified, Palestinian, emerging, and disabled writers, as well as submissions from educators and any other historically marginalized writers.

What we will not accept:

-Previously published work (even stuff on social media sorry).

-AI-generated work. While there is space for AI written work somewhere, this is not that space. We want the humanness.

General submission guidelines:

-Please put all poems (with no other info) into one (1) document.

-We prefer docx/doc !! Only send us a PDF if your formatting is off the walls cray-cray (and if you need other accommodations just shoot us an email).

-The link to our submission portal for poetry is below! Please make sure you select who you want to read your submission. And please send poetry through the submission portal only.

-The submission portal is for poetry only. Art guidelines are below!

-Please only submit one (1) submission at a time.

-If you are rejected, please wait one month before submitting again. If you get accepted, please wait 6 months before submitting again.

-If you submit before you’ve heard back from us, or you try sneaking a submission to both Taylor and Martheaus at the same time your submission(s) will all be ignored.

-We aren’t too concerned with cover letters, like truly just send us some poems. Or let us know what your favorite dinosaur is.

Art Guidelines:

-Submit in whatever format is best for your work. We will figure it out.

-Send like 10 (ish) max things.

-email to submit@brawllit.com

-Art submissions are judged by both Taylor and Martheaus.

- Subject line should be [YOUR NAME Art for the Brawlers]

Ex: “Art - Katey Funderburgh”
